Novices Depart for Fiji

The 2012 Prenovices have departed for Fiji to commence their Novitiate.

It was a night to remember. On the night of 21 January 2013, family and friends of the 2012 Prenovices, Sailele, Etuati and Vitale, gathered at Faleolo International Airport to farewell the trio as they embarked on the next phase of their Salesian journey. After spending at least 18 months living in the Salesian Community at Alafua as Prenovices, they departed for Fiji, where they began their Novitiate immediately after the Feast of Don Bosco on 31 January.

There was sense of anticipation as the Sailele, Etuati and Vitale checked into the Air Pacific flight. The excitement of the moment was tinged with some sadness as parents, brothers and sisters, and the Salesian community bid the trio “manuia malaga” (“a safe and fruitful journey”).

During their time at Alafua the three had studied at the National University of Samoa and the University of the South Pacific. In Fiji, they will continue their studies, concentrating during their Novitiate on deepening their knowledge and understanding of Salesian religious life under the guidance of their Novice Master, Fr Taisali, who is also the Rector of the Don Bosco Nakasi Community, based just outside Suva. If all goes to plan they will make their first vows as Salesians on the Feast of Don Bosco next year.
