Feast of Don Bosco

The Salesian Community at Alafua celebrated the Feast of Don Bosco by inviting religious sisters, brothers and priests from across Samoa to join them in the celebration of the Eucharist, the renewal of vows of two brothers in Practical Training and a joyful, festive meal.

Brother Falaniko Ese and Brother Atonio Lealea, renewed their vows before the Rector, Fr Nicholas Castelyns, in the context of the Eucharistic celebration attended by about thirty visiting religious, including the Salesian Sisters. Fr Nick also preaching reminding all gathered that what young people experience influences the values and attitudes they adopt. Fr Visesio led, with the assistance of the brothers and the pre-novices, the music and singing which concluded with a rousing rendition of the Hymn to Don Bosco. The festive meal, lovingly organised by Nancy, our ever-faithful house-keeper, was a joyous celebration as religious from various congregations mixed, chatted, talked, ate and laughed together in a spirit of celebration and solidarity. The community was extremely grateful to Fr Paselio for co-ordinating the whole celebration.

St Michael's Leauva'a

The Salesian parish of St Michael’s had a special youth programme to celebrate the feast of Don Bosco. The afternoon before the feast day, the youth gathered for prayers in preparation for the following day. It was an early start for the youth in the actual feast day as they formed the choir for the early morning 5:45am Mass, which was celebrated by Fr Petelo, the Parish Priest, and attended by a large number of parishioners. In the afternoon, the youth gathered again, this time for games and activities … and icecream!!
