Don Bosco Alafua fielded a team in the Upolu Island Interschool Rugby 7s Tournament for the first time in many years.Rugby 1The Don Bosco team started training early in the year and have continued a daily regime of training each day after school. Fitness, skills, strength and tactics have all formed part of the training. The Don Bosco boys have been particularly keen and proud to train for Don Bosco as many of them have had few previous opportunities to play for a school team.

Special guest trainer on 14 February was Mr Rudolf Moors, Head Coach of the Manu Samoa 7s, the National Rugby 7s team. Rudolf conducted a special training clinic for the boys, which was a source of inspiration and encouragement.

A series of warm up “friendlies” against neighbouring schools preceded the tournament.

The inexperienced Don Bosco team played hard and fast but were no match for their more experienced competitors. Head Coach of the High Performance, John Schuster, was present scouting for talent and was particularly interested in two or three of the Don Bosco players.
