The Day the Prime Minister Rang

Some days amazing things happen

Fr Chris Ford, the Principal of Don Bosco Technical Centre, describes the day he received a call from the Prime Minister.

Yesterday morning I was in class and our receptionist came running into the room: “It’s the Prime Minister!” And so it was. The Honourable Prime Minister Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi wanted to know if Don Bosco Technical Centre would be prepared to represent Samoa in the fautasi (long boat) race and the entertainment at the American Samoa Flag Day in April. It was an offer too good to refuse and I said “Yes” without asking the senior staff. However, I quickly convened a meeting at the morning break and they were all excited by the news.

Now the work begins. Longboat training will start tomorrow and siva (dance) practice on Friday.

American Samoa … here we come!!!  May the Lord bless our adventure.

Don Bosco Technical Centre Alafua has previously represented Samoa in American Samoa in 2006 and 2010.
